Dave and Lisa

And we all have so much love to share with them both. Everything happened so fast. Why is it that we take those that we love for granted. Until the day that you can hug Dave and Lisa yourself, tell them here whats on your heart…

Does Anyone Care!!!

Why is she laughing?
Why are they enjoying their lunch?
Why are they playing music and talking commercials on the radio?
Don’t they know that my world just came crashing down?
Why isn’t THE world mourning MY world?
Have you been there?  Have you experienced a tragedy in you life that so consumes you that you feel disconnected with life [...]

Hard Weekend

What do you do when one of your best friends has his world collapse upon him – and it collapses publicly?
Yea – I get it.  Pray….of course (and will you pray for him too)?
But what do we DO?
Once I got the word, I knew I had to find him.  Instinct? Love? Concern?  Maybe, but I [...]

Incongruent

Reading through one of my most favorite books of the Bible – James. Chapter 1 may be the richest “chapter 1″ of all Scripture.
Have you heard about the neurological study that confirms James 1?
FInding show that incongruent thought patterns cannot share the same neural pathways (put another way, negative thoughts travel along a different route [...]

My Church is Bigger Than Yours Jesus….

He gets it.
The following account is powerful.
Pastor Francis Chan challenged a room full of some of the most influential church leaders with a message that every lover of the local church should hear.
This past weekend I was rocked by something that Francis Chan said. He told a room of 1000 pastors and church leaders that [...]

Predicting the Future

Hung out with 100 teen young men this weekend.  Their passion for their KING was intoxicating.
In a late night chat with a few of them, we focused on the future.  As these 5 young men faced their transitonal years from teens to 20’s, the anxiety mixed with anticipation was tangible. The recurring wish:
“If we could [...]

Paying It Forward (and behind you too)

File this under LOVE is a verb….
So my sister Suz sent me the following idea that’s being encouraged by a local Christian radio station:
The Drive-Thru Difference.
1. Print out the Drive-Thru Difference Letter here (print as many as you want!)
Hi!
You don’t know me, but I just paid for your order. There’s no catch – It’s just [...]

Largest Growing Religion Is?

Not what or who you may think.
When I stumbled upon these most recent stats from the American Religious Identification survey, I was shocked!
First, some perspective:
1. The largest single religious denomination in the USA – Catholics
1990: 46 million
2001: 51 million
% change: +11
2. Baptists:
1990: 33.9 million
2001, 33.8 million (keep an eye on this trend)
% change: ~0
Now for [...]

Top 10 Worst Small Group Ice Breakers

I cringe each time I have to play an ice breaker game.  I get the “why” behind the exercises, but some to the questions are just unintentionally painful.
But I would LOVE to play the game if we could use THESE questions:
10. Which famous criminal would you say you are most like, and why?
9. What is [...]

My Prayers Suck….

Rote lazy prayers….
Hate them!
Guilty myself of offering up these half-hearted memorized, routine, babble to THE Creator of all things.
Words like “I praise you for who you are”?
What????
I can just sense God thinking “Who DOOOOOO you think I am?  What are you praising me for???
Luke warm prayers at best.
So because you are not one thing or [...]

It’s a God Thing!

…really?
Seems to be the newest catch phrase in Christian circles these days – “It’s a God thing”.  I heard it over and over this past weekend – may have even said it myself.
Nate over at www.nateedmondson.com wrote that “A ‘God thing’ is when something happens that can’t be explained and it becomes apparent that God [...]

Church? Nah…I Quit

Hanging with 20 somethings this weekend, over lunch I overheard her say:
“I don’t go to church. The Christian world puts everyone in a little box and has no time for people who step outside it.”
Does this bother you as much as me?  What are we going to do?

3 Hot Jobs

If I were looking to either change jobs or to put together a dream team to launch a new church or business to lead my project, I agree with Seth Godin when he writes about these 3:

COMMUNITY ORGANIZER. Find and connect and lead a tribe of dedicated users that contribute to and benefit from the [...]

Losing Purpose

Last night, over beef, chips, cookies, and lots of testosterone….
Bunkered down in the “no girls allowed room” the guys did guys things – at least until it was time to watch the Knights Templar DVD and I had to ask for some technical assistance from my 14 year old daughter – embarrasing.
These warrior monks were [...]

The One Thing…

Spiritual growth.  How do I achieve this?
We all want it, right?
So what is the one thing, the one practice that will accelerate growth more than any other discipline?
In Follow Me, the second book out of the Willow Creek Association and follow-up to their incredibly insightful REVEAL research confirmed that a Christ follower who consistently stated [...]
