Influencing the Influencer

What is leadership? According to John C. Maxwell, well known author, leadership is influence. This word…Influence…is a simple, straightforward, one word description that places leadership within everyone’s reach. All of us can exercise a certain degree of influence on someone, at some point, in some place. Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another.

Rick Warren told reporters “God said to me the purpose of influence is to speak up for those who have no influence.”

Matthew chapter 10 contains an incredible warning and opportunity concerning influence. If we are to influence others for Christ, we can expect to suffer persecution. When we are persecuted, the stage may be large. We read in chapter 10 that their persecution was brought before councils and governors and kings, all this should become a testimony for them-a divine means of presenting the gospel of the kingdom to kings and princes. Think of the possibilities! Moreover, circumstances like these made their testimony much more conspicuous – a bigger stage to proclaim the “good news”.
This escalation was a hint that their message would not long be confined to the lost sheep.
