Catalyst Day 1 Recap

Wow – 11 hours of sitting at the feet of some of the brightest minds of our day. Catalyst 07 is amazing.

Andy Stanley opened the morning. With over 18,000 in attendance, Andy leads one of the fastest growing churches in America.

* Leadership wields power (or influence).

* How do we use this power to honor God?

* Learn to leverage that power to bless others. To do anything less is to declare that we are greater than our Savior.

* Our legacy as leaders will be defined by the realization that we are not greater than our master and Savior.

Patrick Lencioni – author of 5 best selling books, including The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.

Job misery comes from these 3 tenants:

1. Anonymity – People need to be reminded more than they need to be instructed. We must take risks and invest in those we work with.

2. Irrelevance – Do I make a difference in someone else’s life? We must get to know our team personally.

3. Immeasurement – We must learn to measure what we do. How do we measure? Smiles? Laughs? Sales?

Shane Clarborne – founder of The Simple Way, a faith community in inner city Philadelphia that has helped to birth and connect radical faith communities around the world

* I’ve given up Christianity to follow Jesus.

* Community – surrounding ourselves with people we would like to become.

* I can not fully recover until I help the world that made me like this recover.

Francis Chan (my personal fav) – pastor and Bible college president. The most real and cutting edge pastor I have heard. His church gives 50% of their income to the poor. How? They decided against HUGE buildings in favor of meeting outside.

* I was created and set apart by God to do something that nobody else can do (for me, this one statement was worth the price of admission).

Sunday Adelaja – Founder and pastor of the largest church in all of Europe (250,000 members in 30 services).

* If you want to permeate a society you must influence 7 spheres: politics, business, media, education, arts, sports, and spiritual. Most churches only focus on the spiritual.

Rick Warren – America’s Purpose Driven pastor and founder of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest California with 22,000 weekly attendees.

* God has not promised to bless my agenda. Help me God to do what you are blessing.

* If you want God’s blessing on your life, you must get with HIS agenda.

* I was made to be loved by God.

* I’m not interested in changing culture. Be interested in creating culture.

* When God has a question, it is not for His benefit.

* If I surrender what is dead in my life to God, He will bring it back to life. When I pick it back up, it will die again (think Moses and the rod). It is all about surrender.

Such a rich day. More tomorrow with John Maxwell, Craig Groeschel, Dave Ramsey, Erwin McManus, and Andy Stanley.
