There are no office hours for leaders – James Gibbons

One thing I’ve learned through my 18 years of running my business is that the above quote is pure truth.

And this truth spills over to our ministry as well.

Case in point – a very good friend of mine who is a pastor at a local church took me to my favorite Mexican spot – Mariposa. Over chips and salsa he told me that he would never change what happened to him and his family last summer.

Towards the end of their family vacation, he received a ministry call that he HAD to answer. This meant cutting the vacation short. It caused pain. But looking back a year later, he told me that the fruit of answering that call WITHIN HIS FAMILY has been tremendous. At the time it hurt. Now it is fruitful.

There are no office hours for leaders.

Of course healthy boundaries are imperative. Family first. Vacations are a must to sharpen the ax.

But for those of us who are followers of Christ, that makes us leaders. And leaders have no office hours.

Are you ready to answer His call – whenever He calls?

One response to this post.

  1. Ouch.

That was pretty painful to read. Been there. Doing that. Totally understand it.

We don’t have the luxury of placing God’s call into voicemail.
