Church? Nah…I Quit

Hanging with 20 somethings this weekend, over lunch I overheard her say:

“I don’t go to church. The Christian world puts everyone in a little box and has no time for people who step outside it.”

Does this bother you as much as me?  What are we going to do?

It does bother me. WE have put ourselves in a box and yet the line between the world and those who walk with Christ has widened and if we look too much like the world we won’t be “set apart” as we are to be.
The problem in trying to step “out of the box” is we become useless for God. We become useful to Satan to prove to the world we are nothing different then the world.
Stay true to His Word. Love your enemies, but don’t follow their ways. Tell them the TRUTH. We will seem separate because we are. Show them they to need Him.
    Just some thoughts.

Does it bother you because it was said or because it’s true?

It bothers me because it is true, and because of the fact that a generation is being robbed of the blessing of corporate worship.

while i agree with you Buffy, that was not her point in saying that Christians put others in a box. we have lost a generation because we have failed to reach them where they are. never should we water down or alter the gospel, but we must love this world enough to learn their love language, not just ours. – hook

You are right. It does say that we put others in a box. But I find that we as humans, categorize our whole life, not just Christians.
And as far as not reaching a whole generation, that is because the church is not solid enough. We have spent way to much energy trying to create programs and departments that “reach” certain categories of people. This is NOT what we are called to do at Christ followers. We are to stay true to His Word and stay strong in the values of Christ. These do include all the commands in the old testament, though impossible to do on our own without the Holy Spirit.
I guess my point here is it’s only going to be a wider divide as Christ return approaches. It will be harder to live a life as Christ desires from us. We will have to prove our love to Him more and more and be pursecuted for it.
Just look at this wonderful reaction to Prop 8 in California. The majority has voted one way, yet the louder mouths are allowed to destroy, hurt and call us haters.
It’s time to stand for Christ even though we may loose in the world we will when in His Kingdom.
